Paws For Recovery

Helping People Heal by Caring for the Pets They Love

What is Paws for Recovery?

Diamond in the Ruff is proud to offer Paws for Recovery, a short-term pet foster program for pet owners who require temporary assistance while undergoing surgery or medical treatment.

Our mission is to give people peace of mind, knowing their pets are safe, loved, and cared for in a stable home environment while they focus on recovery.

How the Program Works

Paws for Recovery is designed to make the process simple and compassionate.

  1. Referral – A nurse, case manager, or social worker contacts Diamond in the Ruff.

  2. Matching Process – We connect the pet with a trusted foster volunteer from our network.

  3. Temporary Foster Care – The pet stays in the volunteer’s home until the owner is well enough to care for them again.

  4. Reunion – Once recovery is complete, we return the pet to their loving home.

Who Can Refer a Pet Owner

Referrals can be made by:

  • Medical professionals (nurses, case managers, social workers)

Foster Volunteer Standards

All Paws for Recovery volunteers:

  • Are at least 18 years old

  • Have completed a thorough screening and training by Diamond in the Ruff

  • Follow all local and state animal care laws

  • Have pets in their home who are up-to-date on vaccinations

Why Paws for Recovery Matters

When pet owners face surgery or treatment, they often delay or avoid necessary care because they don’t want to be separated from their pets.

This program means:

  • Peace of mind for seniors during medical recovery

  • Reduced stress for pets by placing them in loving homes instead of shelters

  • Happy reunions when owners and pets are brought back together

We believe healing is easier when people know their best friend is safe.
