I recognize that working with animals places me at physical risk, and I agree to assume that risk. Although every attempt will be made to ensure your safety, animals (particularly rescued animals) are by their nature unpredictable in behavior. Accordingly you, as a volunteer agree to the following conditions:

I, hereby agree to hold Diamond in the Ruff, (including but not limited to, its officers, directors, volunteers) completely release and entirely discharge Diamond in the Ruff for any injury whatsoever that I may suffer as a result of my volunteer activities with Diamond in the Ruff. I recognize that working with animals places me at physical risk, and I agree to assume that risk. I acknowledge that Diamond in the Ruff has taken all reasonable measures to protect me, accidents and injuries may still occur. This includes but is not limited to dog bites, scratches, communicable illnesses or pests contracted from any animal.

Social Media

In the rapidly expanding world of electronic communication, social media can mean many things. Social media includes all means of communicating or posting information or content of any sort on the Internet, including to your own or someone else’s web log or blog, journal or diary, personal web site, social networking or affinity web site, web bulletin board or a chat room, whether or not associated or affiliated with DITR as well as any other form of electronic communication. The same principles and guidelines found in DITR’s policies and these basic beliefs apply to your activities online. Ultimately, you are solely responsible for what you post online. Before creating online content, consider some of the risks and rewards that are involved. Keep in mind that any of your conduct that adversely affects your volunteer performance, the performance of fellow volunteers or otherwise adversely affects volunteers, adopters, supporters, people who work on behalf of DITR or our legitimate business interests may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Professional Behavior

Volunteers are expected to treat each other in a professional manner. Discourteous or offensive behavior directed toward anyone will not be tolerated. Examples of such behavior include, but are not limited to:

* Bullying or berating others

* Physical or verbal intimidation, such as shouting or angry outbursts directed toward others

* Derogatory verbal or physical behavior, such as name-calling

* Directing profanity toward others

* Behavior that has the effect of humiliating others

* Mobbing

* Other unprofessional or inappropriate behavior

Discourteous or offensive behavior also includes written or electronic communication, as well as group behavior (e.g. “mobbing”) which has a negative impact on the volunteer environment.

Bullying is behavior that harms, intimidates, offends, degrades or humiliates another volunteer, possibly in front of other volunteers, adopters, or supporters. Bullying can have a serious impact on morale and create legal risks.

Volunteers who believe they are being subjected to discourteous or offensive behavior are encouraged, when appropriate, to ask the person engaging in the behavior to stop. If a volunteer is uncomfortable doing so, or if the behavior continues, the volunteer should report the incident to the appropriate Committee Head; or if applicable Director, Assistant Director, and Board of Directors. The complaint policy is outlined in the DITR Policy and Procedure Manual and discussed in volunteer trainings.

It should be noted that all volunteers are expected to act in manners consistent with the organizations mission statement.

Reports of unprofessional behavior should be taken seriously and followed up on as promptly as is reasonably possible. Upon completion of any follow up, the responsible Committee Head or Board of Director liaison should also advise the person who made the report that the matter has been reviewed and addressed.

This policy is not intended to prevent disclosure where disclosure is required by law. Board members and volunteers are cautioned to demonstrate professionalism, good judgment, and care to avoid unauthorized or inadvertent disclosures of confidential information.

Examples of confidential information include, but are not limited to: owner surrender personal information, adopter personal information, volunteer personal information, location of pound animals, locations and details of hoarding situations, locations and details of domestic violence situations, locations and details of animal cruelty or neglect situations. Failure to adhere to this policy will result in discipline, up to and including separation of service with DITR.
